Happy Anniversary OFP
Celebrating 75 years of stability and growth within the BC Forest industry
was founded in 1932 by Bert Welch (father of Bruce E. Welch) and several
other family members.
Originally
logging only on Vancouver Island, the company soon grew to include numerous
coastal BC operations. Olympic Forest Products is now one of the largest
independent forest management service providers on the coast.
A fourth generation, privately held family business, the company thrives
based on valued employees who strive for high standards of excellence
and adherence to aggressive safety programs.

On April 9, 2003, exactly 71 years after Olympic Forest Products Ltd was founded, The Welch Group hosted a celebratory 70th anniversary event in Vancouver. 250 guests from throughout BC had the opportunity of browsing through formal displays which detailed all of The Welch Group companies while focussing particularly on Olympic Forest Products. In keeping with the theme of forestry, guests had to wander through an installed forest on arrival, and the podium consisted of a magnificent yellow cedar stump modified by adding a particleboard paper rest. |
Bruce E. Welch has had a long and interesting career in the forest industry. Recently he allowed himself to be interviewed by a journalist, so that stories which reveal the growth, development and change of this important resource industry, could be captured. Excerpts will be featured regularly in this section.
