On April 9, 2003, exactly 71 years after Olympic Forest Products Ltd was founded, The Welch Group hosted a celebratory 70th anniversary event in Vancouver. 250 guests from throughout BC had the opportunity of browsing through formal displays which detailed all of The Welch Group companies while focussing particularly on Olympic Forest Products. In keeping with the theme of forestry, guests had to wander through an installed forest on arrival, and the podium consisted of a magnificent yellow cedar stump modified by adding a particleboard paper rest.
The formal
program, hosted by MC Joanna Piros, included numerous guest speakers and
congratulatory messages from Premier Campbell and Minister of Forests
Mike de Jong. Bruce E. Welch, Chair and CEO of The Welch Group referred
with pride to the stability and success of this fourth generation, privately
owned group of companies and entertained assembled guests with nostalgic
anecdotes. Welch closed by reconfirming a commitment to ongoing innovation,
flexibility and providing a positive, safety conscious environment for
employees.
